Citroen created a few obscure AX based Concepts & Prototypes. The Xanthia, the AX Evasion the AX ECO Concept and the AX Electrique.
In 1986 Citroen created an AX derived sports roadster concept called the Xanthia. It was launched at the 1986 Paris Auto Show, a few months before the official launched for the AX.The Xanthia concept featured red leather electric seats, on board computer and electronic tyre pressure and temperature indicator.
In 1988 Citroen with the aid of French builder Heuliez created an AX derived 5 door Estate concept called the AX Evasion.The standard AX wheel base was extended by 23cm. It is believed only two AX Evasions were produced. This concept was never put into production, but the Evasion name was used by Citroen for their 7 seater MPV for the European market in 1994.

In 1993 Citroen created an economic AX prototype called the AX ECO Concept. It was designed to be fuel efficient and have to a combined MPG of 100 MPG. The ECO Concept was equiped with a 1360cc diesel engine and 5 speed gearbox. The body was light weight and made from kelvar.

In 1994 Citroen created a few examples of AX Electric prototype cars called the AX Electrique. The car featured a 14BHP Electric Motor, capable of distances of up to 75 miles on a single charge and a top speed of about 56 MPH. Citroen sold a few of these AX Electriques to the Humburg Electricity Works in Germany which they used to drive around the site.
